W.E. spent most of his boyhood in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was educated at Georgia Military Academy, L.S.U., and the University of Tulsa. During WWII he was commissioned Lt. Infantry, and served with the 42nd Infantry Division in France and Germany. He was wounded in Germany, and later retired, due to his combat incurred wounds. He was later in the hotel resort business, and has since retired. He now lives in Punta Gorda, Florida.
